TEAM SPOTLIGHT
March 2025
Meet Mike Bierds, the man who can build anything from a custom home to a commercial masterpiece, all while being the life of the party at the marina. Born and raised in West Chester, PA, Mike is the youngest of four siblings, which means he's had plenty of practice in standing out and making his voice heard.
Mike's journey into construction began in the summer of his junior year in high school, working for a road construction company where his uncle was employed. He quickly fell in love with the industry, enjoying the outdoor work and the early starts and finishes. After graduating, he dove headfirst into building custom and semi-custom homes, starting from the bottom and learning every facet of the trade for over 14 years.
He eventually tired of the continuous homeowner calls and weekend interruptions, so Mike sought a change and found it in commercial construction. This led him to commercial projects, where he worked with A&E Construction and Allied Construction before joining Caritas. When Jody, his former colleague at Allied Construction reached out about starting Caritas Construction, Mike knew it was the perfect opportunity. His first project? The ICONA Resort in Avalon, where he made his mark as the first superintendent at Caritas Construction.
Mike thrives on hotel projects like ICONA, especially when collaborating with his colleagues. His commitment to Caritas is driven by the people – a team that supports each other and consistently aims to excel for the company and its clients. As Mike puts it, "Bottom line is everyone knows what they need to do and they do it." With Mike leading the way, Caritas is undoubtedly in capable hands. He values helping others and the culture of open communication and mutual assistance that defines Caritas. This is evident in his role as a mentor to newer team members, such as Emily Hacecky, Assistant Project Manager. Emily shares, “You can always rely on Mike to get the project done, no matter what it takes. He is always great about explaining the technical side of things, which I appreciate. He has been wonderful to work with over the past four years and extremely supportive in my career in construction.”
Outside of work, Mike is a total boat enthusiast. He loves spending time on his 54” Seaway Express Cruiser, whether he's decompressing at the marina or cruising to Ocean City, MD, Lewes, DE, or St. Michaels, MD. A social butterfly, Mike enjoys hanging out with his wife, friends, and his two grandchildren, making the most of his time on the water.
